The Canadian luxury chain Four Seasons is opening its first hotel in the Nordics — in Copenhagen, a stone’s throw from Kongens Nytorv and Hotel d’Angleterre. It will move into Erichsens Palæ, the former Danske Bank headquarters next to Magasin du Nord, with more than 100 rooms as part of a wider transformation of the Laksegade quarter. The opening is expected in early 2028; the chain is majority-owned by Bill Gates’ Cascade investment company.
What is interesting is the vote of confidence in the city. A global luxury brand chooses Copenhagen for its Nordic debut, turning a historic bank palace into a destination people travel for. It is a marker of how the city is being positioned — less a practical stopover, more a place worth a luxury flag of its own. When a name like this plants roots, it signals where the map of desirable destinations is being redrawn.
So…:
What would it take for your place to be somewhere people travel to, not just pass through?
