MESH, a Nordic startup community with hubs in Oslo, Copenhagen and Trondheim, is selling its Copenhagen space less as an office than as a private members’ club. Its sites — Matrikel1 and Founders House — wrap desks and meeting rooms in a historic building with a bar, café and lounge, and the membership is pitched around access and belonging. Across its hubs MESH counts thousands of members and companies and hosts well over a thousand events a year.
What is interesting is the reframing of work. The desk is no longer the product; the club is. Where coworking once sold cheap, flexible space, the move now is to sell membership, atmosphere and a crowd worth being part of — the same ‘third place’ logic showing up in gyms and retail. As remote work hollows out the reason to leave home, the workplaces that win are the ones people choose for the company, not the chair.
So…:
What would make people choose your space for who’s there, not just what’s there?
