A ’90s Nostalgia Video Format Is Flooding Facebook Feeds

A simple video format is filling feeds: someone films themselves today, a line of text reads “What were you like in the 90s?”, and the clip cuts to a montage meant to conjure the decade — grainy footage, old fashions and a wistful late-90s song humming underneath. People tag friends, compare notes and reminisce in the comments.

Look closely and the nostalgia is fuzzy: the clips and the soundtrack often aren’t really the 90s at all, just a warm blur of “back then.” That is part of the appeal. It is a fad more than a trend — a fleeting format that flares up, fills the feed for a few weeks and fades when the next one arrives. What is interesting is how neatly it packages an easy, shared hit of feeling.

So…:

What fleeting phenomena have you spotted, and how could you use them in your own situation?
