Sober Daytime Techno Parties Are Catching On in Copenhagen

On a Sunday afternoon at a secret location in Copenhagen, a techno party is in full swing — but there is no vodka in the caffeinated mate, no dilated pupils and no strobe lights, just sunshine through coloured plastic on the windows and spring bouquets on the DJ booth. The crowd is sober, and the event is community-based: you have to know someone to get in.

It is part of “soft clubbing,” a Gen Z-led phenomenon that has spread globally over the past year. The idea is simple: still dance and get swept up in electronic music, but without sacrificing sleep or drowning the experience in alcohol and drugs. As young Europeans drink less and put health first, daytime raving is taking root as a counter-reaction to draining club culture — and it is about presence, and a different way of being together.

So…:

How could you build an experience around presence rather than excess?
