Boosting UK Screen Tourism: A Strategic Alliance

VisitBritain and the British Film Commission have signed an agreement to boost UK screen tourism. Announced on December 6, 2023, at FOCUS London, this partnership targets the growing trend of set-jetting. Over half of international travelers are inspired by screen content, highlighting the potential of this sector.

In 2019, film-related tourism contributed £892.6 million to the UK economy. The UK film and TV industry, with an expenditure of £6.27 billion in 2022, is poised for growth, attracting global productions with its high-end studios and skilled crews.

The impact of screen tourism is evident in regional growth. Post “Bridgerton,” Castle Howard saw a 3400% increase in young visitors, and “Peaky Blinders” correlated with a 26% rise in Birmingham tourism.

This MoU aims to bolster Britain’s position as a prime visitor destination and support major productions. By enhancing screen-related experiences, the partnership intends to integrate Britain’s cinematic allure into international campaigns, encouraging global tourists to explore the UK’s diverse cultural landscape.
