Starting in 2025, the Swedish train company Snälltåget ramps up competition in Denmark by introducing routes to Hamburg and plans from 2027 to launch routes to Aarhus. As reported by Kollektiv Trafik Forum, these new connections will include daily departures between Malmö and Hamburg, along with ticket sales at Danish stations. Known for its night train to Hamburg/Berlin and ski trains, Snälltåget is now expanding its concept to include a popular dining car. Marco Andersson, the commercial chief, highlights the demand for international travel as the driving force behind this expansion.
However, Snälltåget faces logistical challenges, including acquiring enough carriages, as their current fleet primarily serves Swedish routes. This initiative represents a significant step in challenging DSB’s historical monopoly on intercity traffic in Denmark, signaling a new era of increased competition and choices for Danish train travelers.
