Ryanair Dropped Its Family Seating Fee 18 Months Before the Law Demands It

Since 25 June 2026, Ryanair no longer charges for a child to sit next to a parent. Adults can reserve seats beside them for up to four children on the same booking at no cost, and families who choose not to reserve anything are allocated seats together for free after check-in — usually towards the back of the aircraft. The airline described the change as tweaking its seat allocation to match industry standard.

The timing is the interesting part. The change followed an investigation by the UK competition authority into whether the old policy broke consumer law. And in July, the European Parliament approved reformed passenger rights that will require free adjacent seating for children under 14 — rules not expected to apply until the second half of 2027. The fee disappeared a year and a half before it had to.

So…:

Which of your fees will disappear on its own before anyone forces you to remove it?
