Sardinia offers free nights to under-35s hiking the Santa Barbara mining trail. This trail traverses sand dunes, oak forests, and cliffs above the Mediterranean, following miners’ footsteps to reveal Sardinia’s history. The Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara Foundation (CMSB) provides three free nights at charming campsites and B&Bs for young hikers exploring the 500 km trail.
To participate, hikers must get a €5 ‘walker’s passport’ from CMSB. This passport grants three vouchers for free accommodation along the trail. The initiative runs until 15 June and resumes from 15 September to 31 December 2024.
The trail, named after the miners’ patron saint, features 30 stages averaging 16 km each, with highlights like the San Giovanni caves, Piscina Irgas waterfall, and Marganai oak forests. It offers a unique blend of historical ruins and stunning coastal views.
