A total solar eclipse crossed parts of the northern hemisphere on 12 August 2026. Within a week, easyJet reported that bookings to the destinations lying under the next one had risen by 70 per cent. The airline calls it the eclipse effect. Bookings to Seville, Almería and Málaga are up 69 per cent, Gibraltar 29 per cent, Morocco 27 per cent, and Tunisia — Enfidha and Djerba — 189 per cent.
The event itself falls on 2 August 2027 and lasts minutes: four minutes and 39 seconds of totality in Andalusia, six minutes and 22 seconds near Luxor, the longest visible from land until 2114. A summer holiday is being planned a year ahead around a number that small, and the destination is decided by where a shadow falls.

What could make your customers plan a year ahead for six minutes with you?
