Airbnb has published a vocabulary for the way Gen Z travels. It rests on Never the Same, a study the company ran with YouGov among 2,012 people aged 18 to 29 across eleven Indian cities in April 2026, and it defines eleven terms — among them micro-cation, room rotting, why-cation and side-questing.
The figures underneath the words describe what a trip is now for. Two out of three set off with the intention of doing nothing, and eight in ten spend at least half the trip at the place they are staying. Seven in ten would rather take three short trips than one long annual holiday, 66 percent book within days or weeks of leaving, and the most common reason to plan a trip at all is burnout — named by 43 percent.
