The new owners of Stauning Lufthavn in western Denmark have applied for a new and narrower approval. From here on the airport is to be open only for visual flight in daylight, and to run without daily staffing and without a local air traffic service. It is documents from the Danish Civil Aviation Authority, obtained by the trade title Check-in.dk under freedom of information, that show the plan: a formerly municipally owned airport carrying on as an unmanned public airfield with a markedly reduced way of operating.
The airport had gone the other way first. It was granted a new certificate for flight information and weather service in November 2025. After four months the authority suspended it following an inspection with serious remarks, and shortly afterwards the airport gave up the certified service altogether. What is now being applied for is not a closure but a lower setting: the runway stays, the tower duty does not.
So…:
What of yours could be turned down a level instead of closed?
