Scientists have created a digital simulation of Earth to provide reliable data on extreme weather and climate change. This AI-powered “digital twin” simulates interactions between natural phenomena and human activities, predicting effects on water, food, and energy systems. The project, Destination Earth (DestinE), combines local and global data to model the entire Earth system. Launched by the European Commission with over €315 million in funding, it aims to help policymakers and scientists prepare for the future.
DestinE uses data from sources like Copernicus and aims to complete a full digital replica of Earth by 2030. Peter Bauer, co-initiator, stated it can simulate data to check the effectiveness of infrastructure projects against future extreme events.
So…:
What significance do climate change have for you, and what can you do when it comes to climate and sustainability?
