Campaign Highlights Health Risks in Popular Dog Breeds through Faux Plastic Surgery Ads

Dyrenes Beskyttelse’s latest campaign, featuring fake ads for a non-existent plastic surgery clinic for dogs, aims to raise awareness about the health risks associated with breeding dogs for certain physical traits. The campaign, using the fictional clinic “Snude & Pels,” highlights issues like breathing difficulties and other health problems common in dogs bred for features like short snouts and big eyes.

These ads, appearing across various media platforms, are designed to shock and provoke thought among the public. Jens Jokumsen from Dyrenes Beskyttelse explains that the campaign’s goal is to educate people about the consequences of selective breeding on dogs’ health and to encourage healthier breeding practices.

Here is a photo we’ve taken of the campaign in Copenhagen:

While cosmetic surgeries for appearance changes in animals are illegal in Denmark, there’s no law against breeding for extreme traits that harm animal welfare. The campaign thus serves as a critical reminder for potential dog owners to consider the health implications when choosing a pet and pushes for more responsible breeding practices to ensure healthier dogs.

So…:

How can you generate awareness about a topic that is important to you by evoking curiosity?
