On Removed Its Signature Holes to Make a Hiking Shoe

On has revealed the Cloudsoma Hike, a $160 hiking shoe that leaves out the hollow CloudTec pods in the sole — the open gaps that have been the Swiss brand’s visual signature on almost every shoe it has made. The Hike runs on a continuous outsole instead.

The reason is mundane: pebbles, mud and pine needles get stuck in the pods out on a trail. The shoe is the second chapter in the Cloudsoma family, a line On describes as being about mindfulness and presence rather than performance stats, and it arrives alongside the laceless Cloudsoma Moc built for recovery and travel. A brand that spent years teaching people to recognise a hole in a sole is now selling the version without it.
