A Norwegian County Banned AI Glasses in All Its Upper Secondary Schools

Akershus fylkeskommune, the county authority around Oslo, has banned AI glasses during school hours with immediate effect. The ban covers pupils and staff alike, and it applies to lessons, breaks and the rest of the school day, tests and exams included. The county gives privacy, safety and a sound learning environment as its reasons, and announced the decision in its own press release on 27 August.

“Pupils and staff should feel certain that they can be present in the school day without having to wonder whether they are being filmed or recorded,” says Lasse Aasan Lehre, county minister for education and skills. AI glasses can record sound and images, or fetch information, without the people nearby necessarily noticing. The county is also weighing whether to write more general rules for this kind of equipment into its school regulations, because new forms of it are already on their way to the market.

So…:

What could someone record where you work without anyone noticing?
