A Danish School Now Tells Parents a Reply Can Take 48 Hours

Vibeskolen in Nyborg, Denmark, has written down how quickly its teachers answer. Parents who write in Aula, the national school messaging platform, can expect a reply within 48 hours. If something is urgent, they are asked to ring the school instead. The rules went out in the head teacher’s monthly newsletter and on posters for parents to read.

Head teacher Stine Terjesen says the tone from some parents had grown harsher — imperatives, exclamation marks, demands that a teacher be fired — and that a few had begun setting their own deadline for a reply. She brought examples to the school board, and almost everyone there was taken aback. Her point is that nobody should open Aula and be talked down to.

So…:

What response time have you promised without ever saying it out loud?
