From 3 June 2026, Danes can show a new digital photo ID in shops. AltID — an app for anyone over 13 with MitID and a CPR number — counts alongside a passport and driving licence, and can also verify age online. What is interesting is how it handles age checks: instead of a clerk working out an age from a birth year, the app simply displays “+16” or “+18.” An age proof can confirm only that you are over the limit, without revealing your exact age, CPR number or any other details.
What stands out is how an utterly ordinary moment of buying is being rebuilt. Identity and age control move from a physical card and a quick mental sum to a check that shows exactly enough — and no more. When privacy becomes a feature rather than an afterthought, it changes what we expect every time someone asks to see ID.
