Danish PM Moves to Stop “Shadow Hotels” in Copenhagen

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen used her opening speech in Parliament to announce new measures against illegal short-term rentals. She warned that Copenhagen must not become “a new Venice,” where tourists displace residents.

The move follows Jyllands-Posten’s revelations of unregistered hotel-like operations via Airbnb and Stay in Nordhavn. Danish Industry welcomes tighter rules, calling current regulations “full of holes” and hard to enforce due to split authority.
