Two Danish apps, UdenUSA and Made O’Meter, are gaining traction by letting users scan supermarket products to identify and avoid American goods. Created by 21-year-old Jonas Pipper and his friend Malthe Hensberg, UdenUSA is now among Denmark’s most downloaded apps. The initiative grew from a viral Facebook group calling for a boycott of U.S. products.
Though U.S. imports make up a small fraction of Denmark’s food market, experts say the trend reflects consumers’ emotional need to act—even symbolically—against political frustration.
