OMHU Sold a Dupe of Its Own Sofa on Temu

The Copenhagen furniture brand OMHU has spent four years watching its TEDDY sofa turn up on online marketplaces under other names and at lower prices. Rather than send letters from lawyers, it made a copy of itself. The TEDY, one D short, is built from the same materials and in the same way as the original, upholstered in a shade the brand calls dupe-orange. It sells for $799.99 against the original’s $1,995, a price OMHU arrived at by averaging the copies already listed.

The limited run never went on OMHU’s own website. It was listed on Temu, Etsy and dupe.com, in among the imitations, with a woven label reading “So many dupes. Only one original.” The edition sold out. The point, the brand says, is not to name the copiers but to get people to look at what sits behind a lower price: where a sofa was made, by whom, and out of what.

So…:

Where is your work already being copied, and what would happen if you made the copy?
