Cold Hawaii Games Big Air does not have a date this year. It has a window. From 4 September to 9 October the kitesurfing contest can be held at Nørre Vorupør on the Danish North Sea coast, and nobody knows which day until the weather decides. If the forecast promises a mean wind above 15 metres per second for seven hours, the organisers switch on a yellow lamp and every rider is told to stand by.
When the forecast is certain enough and the start is 48 hours away, the lamp turns green, the message goes out, and some of the world’s best kitesurfers set course for a fishing village in Thy. Sport Event Denmark has joined as a partner this year, and for the first time six women are in the field, selected through a video competition. Riders, press, sponsors and spectators all keep five weeks open for one day of competition.

What would you have to keep open in your calendar to catch the right moment?
