Nvidia, homebuilder PulteGroup and startup Span have unveiled a plan to turn ordinary houses into nodes of AI infrastructure. A unit called the XFRA Node — packed with Nvidia Blackwell chips — attaches to a home like an outdoor appliance and runs AI workloads using spare electrical capacity. Span says hosts could receive benefits worth up to $22,000 a year, mostly as infrastructure upgrades and lower bills rather than cash. It targets new-build homes with modern wiring; a pilot of about 100 homes is set for the US southwest in autumn 2026.
What is interesting is where the compute goes. Instead of one giant data centre, the load is spread across bedrooms and backyards — the home reframed as rentable industrial capacity. (The headline figure comes from Span and is not yet proven at scale.)
