A bright yellow phone near Boston University invites passersby to connect with seniors in Reno, Nevada. Created by biotech firm Matter Neuroscience, the free “call a boomer” line aims to reduce loneliness and spark meaningful conversations across generations.
Users can pick up the phone to be instantly connected or leave a voicemail if unanswered. The concept builds on an earlier project linking politically different regions that generated hundreds of exchanges. Now focused on age gaps, the initiative encourages empathy, shared stories, and stronger understanding between younger and older adults.
So…:
Where could it benefit you to improve mutual understanding and, at the same time or separately, reduce loneliness?
