UNESCO recognition boosts visitor numbers at Viking fortress

After the Danish Viking fortress Trelleborg was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List last year, visitors have flocked to the site. The museum has seen a 65 percent increase in visitor numbers in the first five months of this year, according to museum director Anne-Christine Frank Larsen. Trelleborg was recognized along with four other ring fortresses. This increased attention has attracted more international tourists, especially from Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, and the USA. The museum’s social media has also seen a significant rise in interest, with increased marketing efforts following the listing.
