Galapagos Islands Hike Entry Fees to Protect Ecosystem

Amid growing concerns over the environmental impact of tourism, Ecuador is set to double the entry fee for the Galapagos Islands from $100 to $200 for most tourists, effective August 1, 2024. This decision aims to manage visitor numbers and fund conservation efforts in the ecologically sensitive archipelago.

For Mercosur bloc members, the fee will rise to $100. This marks the first fee hike since 1998, reflecting Ecuador’s commitment to preserving the islands’ unique biodiversity. The additional funds will support crucial conservation projects, ensuring the Galapagos remains a global treasure for generations to come.

With only 30,000 residents, the islands see around 170,000 visitors annually, straining local resources and ecosystems. The move is part of broader efforts to maintain the balance between tourism and environmental preservation.

So…:

Is there anything you should do to take care of the area in which you operate?
