Coca-Cola embarks on an eco-friendly initiative by removing labels from Sprite and Sprite Zero 500ml bottles in a UK trial. Starting January 2024, this pilot aims to streamline recycling and minimize packaging use. The trial, running in eight Tesco Express Stores across Brighton, Hove, Bristol, London, and Manchester, replaces traditional labels with embossed logos and laser-engraved details on the bottle.
This innovative approach simplifies recycling by eliminating the need to separate labels, and it’s part of Coca-Cola’s ongoing efforts to reduce environmental impact. The clear, 100% recycled PET bottles feature distinctive green caps, signaling Sprite or Sprite Zero.
Dusan Stojankic of Coca-Cola GB&I highlights the trial’s role in promoting sustainable packaging. Javier Meza of Coca-Cola Europe sees this as a significant industry milestone, potentially influencing future branding strategies. Tesco’s James Bull and Keep Britain Tidy’s Allison Ogden-Newton applaud the initiative for its environmental contribution.
